Minister: Russia to label products with palm oil from Jan 2017

MOSCOW, Oct 5 (PRIME) -- Russia will introduce labeling for products containing palm oil from January 1, 2017, Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachyov said at a forum on Wednesday.

“We continue our fight with palm oil and will introduce a new technical rule, where a bold-lettered writing would be placed on a package or a milk carton, so that it is impossible to miss, that there is palm oil content in the given product, already on January 1, 2017,” Tkachyov said.

The government discussed excises on palm oil at one point but ended up abandoning the idea. In September, First Deputy Agriculture Minister Dzhambulat Khatuov said that labeling can be introduced in the entire Eurasian Economic Union.
